Happy Easter Everyone! Hot Cross Buns were originally a Saxon tradition which became an Easter tradition eaten on Good Friday. A hot cross buns are made with raisins and spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, marked with a cross on the top.
Lets get started..
Ingredients:
1/2 cup raisins currants
1/4 cup unsalted melted butter.
1/2 tsp salt
1 packet dry yeast
1/4 cup warm milk separate
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch ground nutmeg
For the Egg Wash 1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water
For glaze 3 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp apricot jam
1 tbsp water
1/2 cup warm milk
1/4 cup unsalted melted butter.

1 tbsp apricot jam
1 tbsp water
1/2 cup warm milk
1/2 cup white sugar
Method:
Step1: In a bowl take 1/4 cup warm milk with 1/2 tsp sugar, yeast and Stir and let sit for about 8-10 minutes at room temp until doubled in volume.
Also in another bowl take raisins and let it sit in a boiling hot water for 10 min. Drain and set aside.
Step2: In a electric mixer combine 1/2 cup warm milk with sugar, melted butter and salt. mix well. Add beaten eggs and mix again.
Step3: Add the mixture with yeast mixture and add cinnamon and pinch of ground nutmeg now stir well.
Step4: In the electric mixer bowl take the liquid mixture and add flour slowly half at a time and make soft dough. Add raisins and pat the dough in a buttered bowl cover with cling sheet to let it rise for about 1-1 1/2 hour.
Step5: Preheat your oven to 375˚F and prepare you buns tray with a butter paper.
Step6: Roll the dough into balls also make cross shape with the help of and transfer to the baking tray and let it sit for more 30 minutes to rise.
Step7: For flour paste to make crosses take flour and add water to make a smooth pipe-able paste. you can add more flour or water as per the consistency you need.
Step8: Now pipe the crosses on each bun and brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool.
Step8: Stir together the powdered sugar and milk to make a make glaze according to your consistency. Pipe the cross shape on the buns and serve.
Step9: Stir together vanilla extract, apricot jam and water and brush on hot buns.
